Limited mobility, health issues, stress, low self-esteem are things that the elderly cope with everyday of their lives. Quite often there is deficit of help and support even if they are lucky enough to have family and friends they can rely on.
There are times when assistance has to be provided by people outside the family, even if the elderly are surrounded by their loving children and grandchildren... who happen to be unable to help at that moment. Nowadays, economists talk about 'sandwich generations': longer life expectancy and pace of everyday activities cause the younger people to be caught between supporting their elderly and raising children while pursuing their own careers.
